Avoided escalation mail and huge embarrassment

After having long discussions with my old delivery point of contact, I understood that it may take very little bandwidth from my day and I can manage things for the next few days. Now, I want to convey this to my manager and get his approval as well and there are two complications associated with it. One I can go ahead and work directly on old service request without even getting the nod from my manager since I have entire knowledge about the project and no one else can fill my shoes in short span of time. Second, even if I support my old service request without m my manager’s approval, it would backfire me as he was involved in the mail trail and in future may raise concern that why it was not brought to his notice. So, to avoid all nuisances and escalation mails, I started to walk towards my manager cabin and was detailed about the new super request from my previous work. I just got away from escalation by just having a conversation with my manager, because he conveyed to me that he was about to send rejection mail to my old delivery team that I am held up with new work and I cannot be supporting closer service request after 2 weeks. Thankfully, I stopped my manger from dropping that mail to all Team members and started to explain the need and amount of effort required from my end. Oscillation about the nature of work

So, I had to work with same onsite team with whom I had worked earlier and the same offshore delivery lead with whom I had issues about his nature of the work. I had ownership of setting up call between both onsite and offshore team, and the call started with all required introduction about the team and service request details. After completion of call, gathering all required information for my work, I was bit relieved as I had most of the standard slides with me and only few slides had to be recreated with the information shared. Now, I had oscillation about the nature of the work, whether it would be simple or would it get complicated each day with new requirement shared by client and onsite team. Till next day’s call, all I had to do was gather some slides from the repository and keep empty slides for the onsite team to fill in. Work came out of nowhere and got little irritated

For past few days, I didn’t have much work to do and was having quite off time in the office. Out of nowhere I got mail from another team, with whom I used to work earlier, and I was assigned to support all opportunities coming from that team. On the other is the inner frontier, a far-future version of the old west with outlaws, gamblers, bounty hunters and lawmen. With the occasional mention of politics, the various currencies used throughout the galaxy, the many references to historic characters from the previous thousands of years, Resnick manages to make the future a totally consistent world similar to our own in so many ways. These books are packed with action and will probably appeal most to male readers. They are mostly "boys own" type adventures although he also wrote a prize-winning romance, The Dark Lady. If Resnick has the one failure it's that his heroes, despite their well defined flaws, are simply too perfect but since this is what we expect of heroes, this is a minor criticism at best.

Dropped off opportunity with same

I was assigned new opportunity again to work with the same complex delivery expert and I was already worrying up too much for the same. Now, the other team who was supposed to work with us for this opportunity completely ignored us due to the bitter experience happened for earlier opportunities. Without much fuss the other team had just dropped off mail note requesting my team to share the questionnaire for the opportunity. Again there was too much fuss created by the delivery expert and I had to work hard for coming up with few questions based on my understanding. The delivery expert was again creating too many issues about sending few mails for clarification, finally had to drop mail to other team, who had already raised the same concern which we had. They replied in most diplomatic way possible to my mail, as they were tired of answering to stupid questions raised by this complex delivery expert. Anyone familiar with this series? It's geared toward teens (but even as an adult, I still love children's lit), and it was not the best-written series of fantasy books I've ever read, and yet, I became hooked. Premise: A group of teenagers gets sucked into Ever world by a witch/friend/enemy (it's complicated) and try to save her while trying to save their own skins. It's full of mythical creatures, gods, and heroes - which I guess is why it appealed to me - with interesting interactions among the kids and the residents (and physics) of Everworld. It had a rather unsatisfactory ending, to me. And yet I wanted to keep reading. I hate books like that. But I really dug this series. Love/hate relationship I guess.

At least in natural sciences, I would say, it is not clear, how to distinguish these 2 concepts. Discovery of a phenomenon is one thing, that surely can happen by accident, but then to "create" a working framework with a predictive theory out of a mere "monkey" discovery is a far more creative work that always will need a deductive mind. Often this "discovery" is also not much more than an extrapolation of known models to a bigger parameter space, as seen so many a times with electro-magnetic waves (accidental x-ray discovery, accidental infrared-discovery). But on the other hand, there are also some discoveries made in astrophysics that were done by a thorough search for predicted phenomena, worked out on a purely theoretical basis. This, I would name a tad more creative than the aforementioned accidental discoveries. I think I would conclude that answering the question, if discovery and creation are the same in science, it really depends on what you see as a "useful" discovery? As it wouldn't have helped the world at all, when the Curie couple, at the discovery of x-rays, just would have stopped to research it, saying: "Hey we found some invisible stuff that is black-ending photographic plates"! But they put hard work in it, and even paid with their life’s (though unknowingly) to understand why that was happening. So, actually, I dare to make my own conclusion: in science there is no discovery without creation or vice versa.

Popper showed us that we only can falsify theories, never proof their certainty with the result (as quoted over and over again by Popper): There is no absolute certainty. Not plausible is my biggest pet peeve. If you are a reader of fiction, you're expected to have some suspension of disbelief. But I find some people read fiction just to try to find things that "couldn't really happen". I find that these people are often hardcore gamers. I have nothing against gamers (I like RPG's myself) but they seem to get into a "system" mode and when they find things that don't go explicitly along with that system, they get upset. I'm not saying that speculative fiction books should be outrageously unrealistic; there's clearly a certain balance that has to be struck. I just think in the act of reading fantasy or sci-fi you should let the writer weave an illusion for you, not go looking for errors.

Different Taste of Books

I'm curious as to what fans out there consider the most annoying criticisms or critics of fantasy books. Why? If you deal with fans of anything, there's a lot of passion and opinion, but how often do you try to have a serious discussion with supposed 'fans' of something, only to find out that most of their opinion has nothing to do with liking the subject and more to do with being critical of it? I don't know what you mean "right and wrong". Science is the most general and effective means known to discover the way the world is.
